This is a big country and although its only an island, there is a lot of ground to cover if you want to explore Australia. I would suggest that you focus your trip on certain key travel destinations as its just too much to do everything a 4 week trip. Here are some ideas for what Australia has to offer and hopefully it will help you plan your trip a little better.

- Beaches
Aussie culture is all about beach life and with some of the best beaches in the world this is the ideal destination for a proper beach vacation. There are great beaches all along the coast with Sydney, The Gold Coast and Even Perth priding themselves in their beaches. Bondi beach is arguably the most famous beach in the world and if you want to see beautiful bronze bodies then this is the place to be. There are quite a few good Bondi hotels, but even staying in any Sydney hotel will give you good access to the beaches.

- The Outback
One of the most fascinating things in Australia is The Outback and if you look on a map y will see the vast central part of Australia that is virtually uninhabited. Its basically a “red desert” with extreme climate and some of the most fascinating wildlife you will ever encounter. Traveling to the Northern Territory is a must for any Australian holiday and seeing Uluru will be one of the highlights of your trip.

- Cities
Ever since Sydney hosted the Olympic games, the cities has grown beyond recognition. Its always been one of the most beautiful cities in the world and with the natural harbor and expansive waterways it truly is one of the most scenic cities in the world. With so many Sydney hotels having harbor views it truly is an experience in itself seeing all the boats and ferries – or even experiencing a harbor cruise is great. Melbourne is quickly becoming one of the most popular city destinations in Australia and many see it as the capital of Australian art and theatre.

Sydney Hotels

Sydney is probably one of the most famous cities in the world and arguably the most beautiful city in the whole world. With its natural harbor, splendid beaches and extensive waterways it truly is any travelers dream destination. Whether you want to lounge around on the beach all, meet the local wildlife or shop till you drop – Sydney’s got it all. It’s a bit city, but with its highly effective ferry and train services you can reach any part of the city with relative ease. When it comes to booking a hotel in Sydney you are spoiled with choice.

Hotels in Circular Quay is by far the most sought after – and most expensive hotels in Sydney. With views of the Sydney Harbor Bridge, The Sydney Opera House and the entire harbor this is truly where it all happens. It’s the most central location in Sydney and right in the hub of all the major sights and public transport. If you are not that fussed with great views, then try some of the smaller boutique hotels in The Rocks – the historical part of Sydney (which is right next to Circular Quay anyway).

If you don’t want city hotels, then you are spoiled with choice all over Sydney. With more than 40 world class beaches you are sure to find what you are looking for. Bondi Beach hotels are also very popular simply because you are right on the doorstep of the most famous beach in the world. Bondi does have a much younger crowd though and there are lots of backpacker and youth hostels in the area.

Manly beach is one of Sydney’s best kept secrets and only a short ferry ride away from Circular Quay it is one of the most sought after places to live in all of Sydney. With 2 major hotels on the Manly beach front and countless smaller hotels and guest houses this is the ultimate beach holiday and ideal for a family vacation.

Sydney has many distinct areas that each have their own charm and offerings. Darling Harbor is one of the most popular night sports with a lively nightlife and countless bars and restaurants it has a very lively feel all year round. The Sydney Aquarium and Wildlife world is also in Darling Harbor but arguably the biggest attraction is the Star City Casino and the iMax theater. Darling Harbor hotels are all arranged around the semi circular harbor and has great views and excellent proximity to the city center.

A Quick Tour Around Australia

Australia is one of the only countries that has the entire continent to itself. In fact, Australia is more than just a continent when you count all the smaller Islands like Fraser Island and even Tasmania. Traveling Australia is a very diverse and extremely enlightening journey that you will never forget. Many people get a camper van and drive around or even though Australia but this can take as long as 6 months. If you buy an Australia travel deal where you get an all inclusive package holiday you need to make sure you pick your destinations careful and not miss out on the best that Australia has to offer.
Whether you go for campervan rentals or jet set across Aus, there is an abundance of natural and manmade wonders that you cannot miss. Most international flights to Australia will land in Sydney. Although its not the capital city it is the biggest and most popular place to visit. With one of the most breathtaking natural harbors, the Opera House, harbor Bridge and spectacular beaches makes Sydney a must. Allow at least 5 days to explore the city and try and find a hotel near Circular Quay.

Melbourne is Sydney’c closest rival and in many ways its seen as the cultural capital of Australia. The city has a rich European history and still has distinct European flavor. Make sure you visit the National Gallery of Victoria to see the best of Australian art (including Aboriginal art) and do venture outside of Melbourne to The Great Ocean road for one of the most spectacular scenic ocean drives in the world.

Queensland is known as the sunny state and for good reason. With year round hot weather and miles and miles of unspoiled beaches, this is the place for beach lovers. There are a number of unbelievable islands just off the Queensland coast that deserves a visit and Fraser Island is one of the most popular. The Great Barrier Reef is by far one of the most amazing places to visit – do not miss it and if you get the opportunity make sure you scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef.

If it’s the Australian outback you want to see, then the Northern Territory will take your breath away. Try and get a hotel in or near Kakadu National Park and make sure you stop by one of Australia’s seven natural wonders – Uluru (Aers Rock). The Northern Territory is full of traditional Aboriginal art and culture and makes for a fascinating visit.

Western Australia is a world apart and offers a very distinct and incredibly beautiful natural landscape. The capital city, Perth is considered one of the best cities to live in the world and one of the must-see places is Rottenest Island about an hours by ferry from Perth. Western Australia is wine country and if you are a wine lover make sure you get to the Margaret River region.

Traveling Around Australia

So, what’s the best way to see and experience Australia? With vast distances between different major cities, getting around Australia is quite a challenge and if you really want to take it all in you have to plan your travel methods as carefully as your destinations itself. With so much to see, how you get there is as much apart of the experience as actually being there. Lets quickly look at the best ways to travel around Aus...

1. By Air
Flights to Australia vary greatly in price but the long flight from Europe and America means its quite expensive. Most flights to Australia will go to Sydney but some do go to Brisbane or Perth. The distances across the country is vast and the flight from Perth to Sydney is more than 4 hours. So, if you plan on visiting the major cities, then traveling by air is probably the quickest option. Internal flights are relatively cheap and apart from the main carrier Quantas, Virgin Blue and Jet Star are the 2 budget airlines where you can get cheap flights to anywhere in Australia.

2. By Car
One of the best ways to really soak up the Aussie culture is to go by car. Driving though all the small towns and seeing the incredible Australian landscape is best seen by car. The problem is that its slow nd covering long distances can be tiresome and time consuming. You might want to consider getting a camper van. Camper Van rentals are quite affordable if you rent them for a month or more and it can be a very economical way of seeing all of Australia on a budget. Campsites are very popular all along the Australia coast and if it needs be, you can always just find a deserted beach and pitch your camp for the night.

3. By Sea
Australia is an island and all the major cities are along the vast coastline. Sydney and its Circular Quay is one of the most popular destinations for big Cruise Ships to stop for a day or two. Australian cruises are extremely popular all year round and you can find some great cruise deals towards the end of summer. You can almost get to any major city in Australia via a boat, so its really a great option – although it’s a bit more expensive. If sailing is your thing, then there are several companies that carter sail yachts.

You can always combine all these and do a bit of everything. I would recommend you try and see the rural side of Australia via car, see the major cities by air and visit the rich coastline by boat.
